Okay, so it's not Mothers' Day today. It was last Tuesday, but still... Monday and Tuesday were a semi-holiday and holiday respectively. Tuesday was the Queen's birthday and therefore Mothers' Day, and Monday was the day that we (CAA) actually celebrated since we got Tuesday off. (By the way, we did over half of our Christmas shopping on Tuesday, and we're hoping to finish it today. How many of you have finished your Christmas shopping 4 months early? You have my permission to be impressed.) So anyway, we had "Science Day" on Monday which involved having a Mother's Day program first thing in the morning and festivities and presentations of the students' science projects the rest of the morning. The really exciting thing, however, was that in the afternoon, we got to go out and plant rice in the school's rice paddies. So, a job that would take a normal 2-3 people 1 1/2 weeks took us a mere 1 1/2 hours. Nice! Here are the fantastic pictures. We got muddy. :-)
Okay, so this first pictures is not of the rice planting. It's of Summer and I with our downstairs neighbors making Kanom something-er-rather. It's made of coconut flour, egg yolk, corn, and chives. Delicious!
This is Mr. Inton. He's the guy who keeps everything running and looking good at the school. Maintenance guy. He's also one of the two in charge of rice planting and harvesting. I want one of those hats!
The rows were set for us, and we just had to fill in the rest. Here's a wide shot of many of the students out doing the job. There were a lot more than this, though.
That's Michael planting rice. And that's me looking up and smiling. :-) (Wait, wait, wait... what?) Yeah... there are two Michaels. Didn't see that one coming, did you?
This is one of the best shots I got. Summer mucking about. Plant that rice Summer! Plant it!
